James M. O’Meara wrote the three short stories in Acts of Volition between May 2007 and February 2008. Each of the works deals with choices and consequences, a recurring theme in much of his fiction.
The Tears of Saint Lawrence – Raymond Hollister, a widower, lost everything after the death of his wife. He struggles daily to provide for his son. Shortly before his boy’s eleventh birthday, a love from Raymond’s past …a woman as badly damaged as he is …comes back into his life.
Wednesday, Then… - A married woman on the brink of an affair waits in a café for the man she must turn way if she hopes to save her marriage.
Water’s Edge – A terminally ill man decides to meet death on his own terms. He leaves his home in Pennsylvania for a trip to Maryland’s Eastern Shore, intent on taking his own life. Events do not unfold as planned.
Also included in this collection are two sets of the author’s selected daily blog posts from 2006 (and no longer available at his website, desktopdynamo.com). The posts range from thoughtful musings to wickedly humorous entries. The posts are sandwiched between the stories to break the tension a bit.
The author, a bilateral cochlear implant recipient living in northeastern Pennsylvania, is currently preparing future e-book fiction releases and working on a pair of unfinished novels.

"Acts of Volition" is an intriguing and insightful collection of stories and funny blog posts by author & NEPA Blogger James M. O'Meara. In my favorite story, "The Tears of Saint Lawrence" , the author clearly illustrates for the reader the way that poverty can shape the thoughts and actions of a person dealing with economic challenges. And in "Water's Edge" the author reminds the reader that we are all interconnected as families, within the generations that make up our own family tree, as well as those fellow travelers that we meet along the way. I received this book as a free download, but I would have gladly paid for it! Readers from Northeastern Pennsylvania will delight in the references to the places we think of as "home".Product details
